The home of enterprising Khasi clans, Cherrapunji's place in the Guinness Book of Records is not its only claim to fame. Along with falls lesser in height but no less alluring, the spectacular, cascading high Mawsmai Falls-the fourth highest in India-lie just a few kilometers beyond Cherrapunji.
Day 1: Arrival At Guwahati
Arrive Guwahati airport and transfer to hotel. Enroute to hotel visit Kamakhya temple it is situated at the top of the Nilachal hill at about 800 feet above the sea level. The entire temple complex not only comprises of many other temples but also a whole set of people connected with them. Apart from the main Devi temple, it also comprises of some other major temples of Devi Kali, Tara, Bagala, Chinnamasta, Bhuvanesvari, Bhairavi and Dhumavati. Also visit Sankardev Kalakhetra located in a beautifully landscaped setting and inaugurated in 1998, is a multi-arts complex showcasing the rich culture of the state. Named after the most honored Vaishnava saint and the greatest integrator of Assamese society Srimanta Sankardeva, the Kalakshetra houses a Central Museum where objects and day-to-day articles used by different ethnic groups are exhibited. It preserves the cultural identity of various communities and tribes of Assam by promoting dance, drama, music and art. There is also an Artists’ Village that creates the atmosphere of a typical Assamese community, the Lalit-Kala Bhavan art gallery where exhibitions, art and sculpture workshops are also held, a Heritage park, an openair theatre with the capacity to hold 2,000 people, a traditional Vaishnavite temple and the Sahitya bhavan library of rare books and manuscripts. Day 2: Guwahati To Shillong
After breakfast we visit the Nabagraha Temple and then drive to Shillong. Check in to hotel. Later local Sightseeing in Shillong. Overnight stay in Shillong
Day 3: Shillong To Cherrapunjee
After breakfast drive to Cherrapunjee. We trek to Single decker Living root bridge 3-4 hours from the Resort. Distance 4 km down and up 1000 feet approx. This trek starts from the Resort premises and goes down hill through village Sohsarat. The steps are relatively steeper in two short stretches. Half the distance is covered by steps going down hill. Then there is a jungle path going along the sides of the hill leading to the Living Root Bridge with a few steps after short stretches of sloping foot path. Moss thrives on these sandstone steps during the monsoon and makes them slippery. Back trek to resort and evening at leisure with local music placed by the local boys. Overnight stay at Cherrapunjee. OR En route visit the famous Elephant falls and Shillong peak - to enjoy a bird’s eye view of Shillong city. At Cherrapunjee visit Mawsmai cave, Mawsmai falls, Seven sisters falls and Nohkalikai falls. After lunch at Cherrapunjee, visit Thankarang park, Koh ramhah and Khrem falls. Overnight stay t Cherrapunjee.
Day 4: Cherrapunjee To Mwallynong And Later Drive To Shillong
After breakfast excursion to Mwallynong . Drive back to Shillong for overnight stay. Note: It is advisable to carry have packed lunch to Mwallynong
Day 5: Departure To Airport
After breakfast drive to Guwahati airport.
