Northeast India is made up of seven separate but adjoining states, as well as standalone Sikkim and is the most tribal region of India. Although the mountainous scenery is arresting, the northeast region remains the least visited part of India. This has been due to its remoteness and the permit requirements placed on tourists.
Day 1: Arrive Guwahati And Transfer To Shillong
Meet and greet upon arrival by The Cat Holidays representative and then transfer to Shillong. The ‘Gleneagles of the East’ lies in the centre of a plateau surrounded by Khasi hills. En-route visit Umiam Lake or Barapani Park. After lunch go for sightseeing. Sightseeing includes Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous Culture, Ward’s Lake is popular for short garden walks and boating, Botanical Garden offers plethora of indigenous and exotic plants and rare collection of orchids, Butterfly Museum is a storehouse of finest and rarest species of butterflies and moths, Lady Hydari Park is a Japanese style landscaped park endowed with stretches of roses and exquisite flowers. The Mini Zoo adjacent to the park has about 73 birds, 140 reptiles and mammals, Golf Course is one of the largest Golf courses in Asia. Spend the evening in the splendid arena, State Museum is a display of the lifestyle and heritage of the people of Meghalaya, Elephant Falls is a mountain stream gorging down two successive falls set in dells of fern covered rocks, Shillong Peak displays a mesmerizing view of the scenic country side. A unique spot of Shillong is Archery Stakes. A gambling sport which is held every day (except Sundays) at 4.00 PM. Overnight in Shillong.
Day 2: Excursion To Cherrapunjee
After breakfast, excursion to Cherrapunjee. Cherrapunjee is framed as the wettest place on Earth is 60 kms from Shillong. The journey from Shillong to Cherrapunjee offers a pleasant drive as one can witness numerous waterfalls and gorges. Longer stay gives opportunity to the visitor to explore limestone caves and waterfalls, the amazing living root bridges and galore of water and adventure activities. While the must visit places are the gorgeous Seven Sisters falls and the Mawsmai cave is in your tour plan. Also visit Ramakrishna School and Museum Ethnic collection, Jaintia Hills, Khasi Hills and Garo Hills, Eco Park, Nohsngithiang Falls, Nohkalikai Waterfalls, Mawkdok Dympep Valley View, The Mawkdok Dympep Valley View, Dainthlen Waterfalls. You can visit Thankarang Park if you have one more day in hand and make your overnight stay in Cherrapunje (Optional). Later come back to Shillong Hotel. Overnight in Shillong.
Day 3: Shillong To Bhalukpong
After breakfast, transfer from Shillong to Bhalukpong. En-route cross Mighty River Brahmaputra and Nameri National Park. Overnight in Bhalukpong.
Day 4: Bhalukpong To Dirang
After breakfast you will transfer to another Heaven on Earth location which is Dirang. On the way you will be visiting to Tipi Orchid Sanctuary and Research Centre. Dirang is an ideal hill resort in West Kameng district with beautiful Apple Nursery, Kiwi Farm, Yak Research Centre, Buddhist Gompa, Hot Water Spring and ancient Dirang Jong (Fort). It is the base camp for trekking to Gorichen peak and other bird watching trails. Overnight at Dirang.
Day 5: Dirang To Tawang
After breakfast transfer to Tawang. While going to Tawang you will be visiting Jaswant Garh, the war memorial is located 14 kms from Sella Pass on the way to Tawang. Visit Sella Pass, The entry point into the Tawang Valley. Most of the time the lake is covered with thick blanket of snow. Overnight in Tawang.
Day 6: Tawang Sightseeing
After Breakfast, full day sightseeing in Tawang which includes Tawang Monastery (Vihar). The monastery is the house of more than 700 monks. The ancient library inside the courtyard has an excellent collection of thangkas, painted with the blood from the nose of 5th Dalai Lamaand valuable Buddhist manuscripts mainly Kanjur and Tanjur numbering 850 bundles. Urgelling Monastery, is the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Inside the monastery there are several Stupas (Vihar) and people from all walks of life visit this place during Buddhist new year to get the blessing for the coming year. The Craft Centre in Tawang sells beautiful masks, hand woven carpets, jewellery in silver, coral and amber, ‘chubas’ the local dress and delightful affordable mementos. Tawang War Memorial is dedicated to the martyrs of the 1962 Sino-Indian war. Overnight in Tawang.
Day 7: Tawang To Bomdila
After Breakfast transfer from Tawang to Bomdilla. Bomdila is a picturesque town in the foothills of Himalayas and the headquarter of West Kameng District the land of the Monpa, Sherdukpen, Aka (Hrusso), Miji and Bogun (Khawas) tribes. One can see the brilliant landscape and snow-clad Gorichen ranges of the Himalaya on a clear day. With its apple orchards, Buddhist Gomphas and a magnificent view of the Kameng Valley Bomdila can be named as a mini paradise. Bomdila is also an ideal place for nature lovers with several trekking and hiking trails. There you can visit Bomdila Monastery and Craft Centre, where very fine wooden carpets of colourful designs and Masks are produced. Bomdila also offers a Bird's eye view of Kangto and Gorichen peaks (highest peaks in the state) amidst the Himalayan landscape and snow clad ranges. Overnight in Bomdila hotel.
Day 8: Bomdilla To Guwahati
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Guwahati. Enroute visit Bomdila Monastery. The monastery has been built under the guidance of Dalai Lama. Bomdila also offers a Bird's eye view of Kangto and Gorichen peaks (highest peaks in the state) amidst the Himalayan landscape and snow clad ranges. Also visit Craft Centre, where very fine wooden carpets of colourful designs and Masks are produced. Overnight in Guwahati.
Day 9: Departure
After breakfast, return back to Guwahati Airport or Railway station for your departure. Your tour ends here with pleasant memories.
