Athar Jamath Majeed is located on Oppanakara Street in the heart of Coimbatore's retails section. One of the oldest and biggest Majeed in Coimbatore, it is also known as Big Mosque. Perfume merchants named Athar who migrated from Tirunelveli built this monumental structure.This strong structure made of lime and mortar took 44 yearsfor completion. It was in 1860 when the construction works commenced and finished in 1904. The darga consists an open courtyard, Ablution pond and a library. One of the most worshiped Islamic darga with approximately 2000 worshippers assembles for the Friday prayers.
