A well-known temple in Hampi, Balakrishna temple was built Maharaja Krishnadevaraya during 1513 to celebrate his victory over Prataparudra Gajapati, the king of Orissa. An exemplary of ancient art and architecture, this temple is decorated with beautiful carving of figures depicting the life events of Lord Krishna. The pillars and walls of the temple are adorned with intriguing figures of mythological lions. The idol of Lord Krishna as an infant (Balakrishna) installed in this temple is now shifted to state museum of Chennai.
