Camp Street Precinct

Camp Street Ballarat Central, Ballarat City, Victoria, Australia

About

Camp Street, one of the most important historic areas in Australia's most notable heritage city, takes its name from the government camp that occupied the site in the early 1850s. It was from here that government troops and police marched on the Eureka Rebels in December 1854.Camp Street remained the centre of Ballarat's police and justice services until last year when the police station and courts moved to a new complex on the opposite side of the City. The removal of daily activity from the area threatened to leave Ballarat with a dead heart and many important heritage buildings, empty
