Kavala Caves can be entered by climbing a flight of 375 steps. Located at a distance of about 25 km from Dandeli, these limestone caves have naturally formed Shiva Lingam. To catch a glimpse of the naturally formed Shiva Lingam present in the caves, tourists need to crawl into the 40 ft deep winding narrow tunnels. It is believed that these caves have been in existence since the prehistoric times. Currently, the caves are inhabited by numerous snakes and bats. Formed by volcanic activity ages back, the caves have a lot of stalagmite formations. Dimensionally very small, these caves offer a view of the River Kali entering the valley below.
