Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve is spread over an area of 2620 sq km and occupies more than half of the total land area of Sikkim. Spread over the north, south and west districts of Sikkim, this reserve have a unique habitat and ecosystem. A treasure trove of flora and fauna, Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve is also home to the Zemu glacier which is the largest glacier in the Eastern Himalaya.  The reserve was established in 2000 to safeguard the diversity and integrity of the wild life and vegetation.  Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve is also a trekkers paradise. Most of the popular trekking routes and treks to Dzongri and Green Lake are through this reserve. Permission should be obtained to enter the reserve.
