The monastery Trakthok is located near the village of Sakti, a former base on the ancient caravan route through the Nubra Valley in the Tarim Basin. It is one of the oldest Lamaist sect (Nyingmapa), and about 50 monks live here. It is also the only monastery in the 8th this Century by Padmasambhava founded the Order. The former meditation cave is still a revered pilgrimage site and a much visited shrine.
