About

Naina Devi Temple, This temple was constructed in the 15th Century during the Kushan reign but on other hand, an another version states that it was built by Moti Ram Shah. This temple is dedicated to goddess Naina Devi, who is believed to govern the Naini Lake. It is believed to be one of the 64 Shaktipeeth's in India, places where parts of Goddess Sati's body fell while Lord Shiva was carrying her. It is here that her eyes fell, and hence the temple and the goddess is called Naina Devi. The temple was rebuilt after it was destroyed in the 1880 landslide. The word " Naina " means ' Eyes ' and ' Tal ' means ' Lake '.
