To the north of Ooty, on the way to Mudumalai, lies Pykara. Leaving Ooty, the road goes through a beautifully forested stretch to reach here. You need to walk half-a-kilometre from the roadhead to reach the falls. The falls themselves do not conform to the usual notion of a vertically falling stream of water. The stream tumbles down a cascading tract of rocks, which is located in a bowl-shaped utterly green valley that will take your breath away. Right at the roadhead is a cluster of shops selling piping hot pakoras, boiled peanuts and again the ubiquitous homemade chocolates. Pykara Lake is located prettily amidst a shola forest and there is a snack bar run by Tamil Nadu Tourism. People come here and go boating in the large motorboats.
