About

wildlife oman - quriyat and turtle beach overview A holiday in Oman wouldn't be complete without seeing one of the country's most beautiful and fascinating marine species up close – green turtles. This tour will take you along Oman's stunning coastline, where you will visit sinkholes, lush wadis, ancient fishing villages and pristine white-sand beaches, lined by swaying palm trees. And, of course, the sight of hundreds of turtles nesting on the local shores is a spectacular sight not to be missed. On the way to Quriyat, your first sight of the day is the beautiful Bimah Sinkhole. This unique limestone crater is a natural geological formation, believed to have been a cavern before the roof collapsed many years ago. The large hole is filled with clear, blue-green sea water and is a popular swimming spot for the locals and tourists. We then travel onwards to the tranquil fishing village of Quriyat, where you can enjoy the cool breeze of the Arabian Gulf as you stroll around the picturesque harbour and watch the fishing boats and dhows bobbing on the waters. These traditional Arabian wooden vessels are a strong reminder of Oman's ancient times when the town was a significant trading port. Quriyat is still guarded by a watchtower today, which dates back to 1635.
