SOS Children's Village

About

The SOS Children's Village, Faisalabad is located in Chak No. 199/R.B, Gatwala Post Office, Gatwala, Faisalabad and was opened in 1988 with many local philanthropists donating family homes. The land was donated by the Government of the Punjab. The project is well established and, over the years, benefited from up-gradation and additions to the facilities. A generous donor has renovated the administrative offices and added a spacious auditorium. As everywhere else, we are dependant on the community for their support, as their involvement is vital for our operation and expansion. Functions are arranged on a regular basis by various donors and are greatly enjoyed by the children, as are outings to interesting sites. A group of Friends of SOS meets regularly and contributes to the welfare of the children. The SOS Youth Home was opened in 1997 in a building generously donated for this purpose. Unfortunately, this is situated at a considerable distance from the Village so the young boys were unable to attend the SOS school. Again, a donor was approached and three residential units have been constructed for this age group, adjacent to the school area. The older boys who are attending college, or undergoing training, will continue to reside in the previous premises. The SOS Hermann Gmeiner School is yet to be completed. The first block for the Primary School was completed in 1995 and all the classes have been functioning in this building. The plans for the Girls High School and Boys High School are ready and will be implemented as soon as funding is available.
