About

St George's church at Battery Point is one of the first Anglican churches in Tasmania. The church was designed by the government architect, John Lee Archer, and was built in 1836. The tower and porch were added a few years later, to a design by James Blackburn, a convict architect. The church is unusual in that it has two side aisles instead of a single central aisle.
