About

At Susannah Place, visitors can explore l9th century inner-city working class life. Built in 1844, Susannah Place is a terrace of four houses incorporating a corner store. It is located in the heart of The Rocks, one of Sydney's oldest areas and arguably the most appealing part of the city to tourists. Susannah Place provides an insight into the richness of community life that existed in The Rocks in the 19th century. Its modest interiors and rear yards illustrate the restrictions of l9th century inner city life. The original brick privies and open laundries are some of the earliest surviving washing and sanitary amenities remaining in Sydney. Susannah Place's recreated turn-of the-century corner store sells goods from that era.
