Wua Lai Market (Saturday Market)

Wu Lai Road

About

Every Saturday evening Wua Lai Road shuts down to motor traffic and becomes a South-East Asian style street bazaar. This market will often be referred to by foreigners as the "Saturday Market" because of its similar look and feel to the famous Sunday Market inside the Old City. Wua Lai Market is preferred to the Sunday Market by some residents because it is smaller and less crowded while offering similar items often at lower prices. Along with a variety of clothes, hand-made crafts, jewelry, and art, Wua Lai has all of Chiang Mai's street market food favorites from soups and curries, dumplings, and spring rolls to waffles, "ancient" ice-cream and even fried insects! -Scott Johnson
