Penang is an island off the coast of peninsular Malaysia. It is also known as the pearl of the orient and directly translates to Betel Nut Island. In Malay, the island is known as Pulau Pinang. The island is shaped like a turtle and measures about 280 square kilometers. It is one of the oldest British settlements in Malaysia going back to the 1786. Penang is not only known for its breath taking, white, sandy beaches.
