Day 3 (11 Aug) – Kargil To Leh
After an early breakfast , we will start our drive to Leh seeing the
transformation as we traverse from one world to another, regionally as well as “religionally”, from primarily Muslim Kargil district to Buddhist Leh district. Drive to the 11th Century Lamayuru Monastery enroute visiting the mesmerizing Moon Landscapes (you will understand now the reason behind this region being referred to as “Moonland” - exactly similar formations of land are visible as on the moon), Lamayuru is spectacularly located along the valley plain and surrounded by mountains on all sides.
Then visit the Alchi Gompa, a monastic complex of temples at Alchi village and one of the most celebrated of Ladakh’s monasteries, dating back to the 11th century. After Alchi you proceed to Basgo, dominated by the jagged skyline of the ruins of this 15th century capital of Ladakh. Later you arrive at Leh for an overnight stay at your Hotel.

Leh in the morning, en-route visiting Shey Palace, the ancient
capital of Ladakh and further driving through a picturesque landscape. We reach Thiksey, an impressive
complex rising tier upon tier on a
hill above the village. Reach
Pangong by crossing the third highest motor able pass (Changla)
on earth. Spend good 3-4 hours by the great Pangong Tso, 2/3rd of which lies inside the China border. Admire the quietude around the lake as we light a bonfire and share memories of the past week.Overnight at Camps by the Pangong Lake.
