As-Sa'ah Square (Deira Square) Next to the Great Mosque and the mutawwa (ministry for the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice) headquarters, this nondescript expanse of cement is known by expatriates as Chop-Chop Square because convicts are publicly beheaded by sword here. Executions take place on Friday mornings (but not every week), just after the noon prayers.
