Casa Santa Pola

Cuesta Santo Domingo 3

About

Constructed in the 19th century but altered and rebuilt over the years, this building on the outskirts of the city opens onto views of the gorge. It's composed of three levels built onto the mountainside; access is through the third floor. The interior is a mix of Moorish, rococo, and contemporary, with a decor of antique ornaments, wooden floors, archways, terra-cotta walls, and red bistro-style tablecloths. Many of the meals are cooked in a traditional brick oven. Excellent dishes include cochinillo (roast suckling pig), lomo asado (grilled filet beefsteak), and the savory rabo de toro (roast oxtail). Desserts are homemade and traditional to the region. Anticipate unexpected closings on at least 1 day a week (it varies, though it's often Mon or Tues).
