Knight Ridder Building

50 West San Fernando

About

The Knight Ridder's Building was formerly the 'Garden City Bank building' which was home to the World's First Commercial Radio Station established by Charles D. Herold in 1909 to transmit radio programs of music and news. Knight Ridder holds the legacy of being the second largest newspaper publishing chain in the United States and has provided information to many. You cannot miss this site as the name 'Knight Ridder' is across the top storey of this imposing 17 storey structure. Though the Knight Ridder company is taken over by the McClatchy Company, the building is still considered as an important landmark of the Downtown area and it holds an important place in the city's media and publishing history.
