Sion Hillock Fort

Doctor Meisheri Road

About

Sion Fort was built by the British between 1669 and 1677 by Bombay's first Governor Gerald Aungier on a conical hillock. Along with Mahim Fort and Riwa Fort, the Sion Hillock Fort was part of the British fortifications against the Portuguese who held Salsette Island. There is a garden of the Archaeological Survey of India at the base of the hillock. The fort itself is in disrepair, however there are efforts to renovate it.
