Located on the National Highway 44, near Shillong, the Umiam lake is one of the most beautiful and picturesque artificial lakes. Built as a reservoir for a hydroelectrical project, it is one of the most popular tourist spots of meghalaya. From some points it looks like the Loch ness lake in Scotland. Shillong is anyway referred to as the Scotland of the east. The orchid resort offers many activities like water surfing, boating and canoeing. OOne can just sit at the banks and enjoy the beauty of the sunset on the lake.
