Mount Abu is the only hill station in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Situated in the Sirohi district, it lies close to the border of Rajasthan and Gujarat. In ancient times, Mount Abu was home to many saints and sages, including Rishi Vashishtha, who is said to have created four Agnikul Rajput clans from a fire-pit, in order to protect the earth from demons. During the rule of the East India Company, it was leased from the Maharajah of Sirohi by the Britishers.
