Aberdovey Golf Club

About

Aberdovey is a traditional nine-out, nine-in links course. The real defence of the 6,710 yard course that wends through sand dunes is the wind which is often a gentle zephyr but can also be ferocious. Many national championships are regularly held there. Gorse or heather border the course and the buzzards, kites and seabirds wheel on the thermals. Steeped in over 100 years of golfing history and set among Snowdonia National Park on free-draining sand, golf was first played at Aberdovey in 1886. The first holes were defined by nine flowerpots. The railway played an important early role and it still comes into play on the sixth and 16th holes.
