The AIMS Choral Festival, now in its 30th year, is the premier choral event in the South East, attracting choirs from all over Ireland. The festival began twenty nine years ago with a two day event, a gala concert on Friday and eleven competitions for choirs, two of which were confined to the Association of Musicals Societies. Now in its 30th year, it has progressed to a three day event, beginning with eight junior choral competitions under 19 years of age, three competitions for choirs; and five competitions for soloists. Events include a workshop and Gala Concert on Saturday; and twelve competitions ranging from mixed voices, male voice, ladies, gospel, sacred music, light touch music and more. The AIMS Nominations for Musical Societies Nationwide is hosted on Sunday. The atmosphere during the festival weekend is electric with laughter and song on the pedestrianised streets.
