About

One of Finland's most famous painters was born in Porvoo in 1854 and, even after his move to the then-center of the art world (Paris), he made it a point to return to his home town every summer for the rest of his life. In 1883, he built a small studio for himself near what's known as Haikko Manor, where he worked every summer throughout most of his adult life. Many of his famous paintings were created here, including portraits of the Russian Imperial family, which hang today in the art gallery of Haikko Manor Hotel. You'll recognize this cozy and historic artistic shrine by the artist's initials "A. E.," which are displayed near the entrance.
