The sreedevi temple , aravukad the most renouned temple in south India is located at punnapra nearby the national highway. The administration of the temple is done by the Members elected from the Hindus of ten quarters (kara) from kalarkode to neerkunnom. There is a myth regarding the orgin of the temple.It says that the"goddess"(Bhadrakali) came into being in order to kill the cruel demon (asura) who tyrannically ruled the place.The place redden with the crooked blood of the demon is called "asurampuzha". The holy sword of the goddess, which killed the demon, is washed in a pond nearby.
