About

This shop is situated next to Gundel - Budapest's most famous restaurant. The joint owner of Gundel - George Lang - came up with the concept of employing an entirely female staff to prepare the home cooking he remembered from childhood. It is not as expensive as Gundel and well worth a visit. Transylvanian turrets decorate the outside of this 'Owl's Castle'. Inside, homely details such as lamps and ancient lithographs decorate the walls. You could also choose to eat in the fragrant garden. The all-female waiting staff are polite and attentive. The meal begins with a complimentary ring of bread to go with the korozott (curd cheese, paprika and caraway seed dip). Simple Hungarian dishes, interesting salads, stews, soups and light fish dishes are all served. Special dishes for diabetics and vegetarians are also available.
