The Berliner Kindertheater (Berlin Children's Theater) has been putting on plays for audiences aged between four and ten years ever since November 1986, making it one of the most enduring children's theatres in Berlin. The non-profit group Theater von großen Menschen für kleine Menschen e.V. (which translates as "theatre by big people for little people") focuses on big problems faced by little ones in an entertaining way, incorporating material from the world's children's literature to illustrate the points it makes. Fun is still at the fore, but the Berliner Kindertheater successfully teaches its audiences that life cannot be simply divided into good and evil. Past productions include Mein Freund Wickie (Vicky the Viking), Das Beste von Pettersson und Findus (The Best of Pettersson and Findus), and Das Dschungelbuch (The Jungle Book) and many more. A production of Pippi Löngstocking is currently on the schedule. During the summer, the professional troupe performs the plays on the outdoor stage at the Zitadelle Spandau; in the winter, performances are held in the Fontane-Haus in the Märkischer Viertel.
