Bientang's Cave

Off Marine Drive, next to Old Harbour Cuisines: Seafood

About

Few restaurants in the world can best this location -- a cave in the rocks just above the sea, with the most fabulous view of Walker Bay and the whales at play. Try one of two fresh linefish, grilled daily -- the snoek with apricot, a classic South African combination, is recommended, as is the bouillabaisse, made the traditional way with calamari, prawns, mussels, linefish, tomatoes and saffron. While this is Bientang's raison d'être, an unbeatable location can, of course, become a drawback as management and owners are tempted to rest on their laurels -- Bientang's is a great experience, particularly if the whales are breaching in what feels like touching distance, but service is not always great, and food is very basic -- if you care more about what's on your plate than being splashed by a whale I'd recommend you wait for dinner and book a window table at Meditterea .
