About

British Council has been active in Poland for more than 60 years now, although the Krakow branch was only opened recently, in September 1999. The aim of the British Council's work is to propagate knowledge of the United Kingdom as a dynamically developing democracy, and to promote knowledge and use of the English language. Creating a positive image of the UK in Europe involves co-operation on many fronts, whether cultural, scientific, technological or educational. In its quest to build up long-standing relationships with people and institutions in other countries, The British Council works closely with partners both within and beyond the UK. The British Council in Krakow runs English courses for children, young people and adults, and organises registration for UCLES (University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate) examinations. As of September 2001 it is also offering registration for IELTS examinations.
