Caesarea Maritima

Caesarea Maritima, Israel

About

The ruins of Herod the Great's port city built around 20BCE. It includes the port, the Temples area, the horse racing stadium, the amphitheater, the theater (still in use today), the Cardo, Roman style baths, the palestra(gym) and much more. Also there you will find the ruins of the Crusader fortress city bearing the same name. Don't miss the TWO audiovisual presentations - they are superb. Nearby (on the town beach you can also view the 2000 year old aqueducts. Opening hours 8-4/5 depending on the season. Time needed to tour the sight 2-4 hours. Lunch/brunch on the beach is a must - preferably outside with the breeze blowing in your face. . There are 4-5 cafes/restaurants. I personally like the Port Cafe - lighter food but excellent. All of them are open from 9/10 until late at night.
