Catedral de San Cristobal de Las Casas was Built from 1528 and remodeled in the early eighteenth century. The Cathedral of San Cristobal de Las Casas dedicated to the Assumption, is the most representative monument of the city. The first parish priest was Fray Bartolome de las Casas, defender of the Indians. The interior of the church contains interesting pieces of art, among which two beautiful Solomonic Baroque altarpieces covered with wood and gold leaf paintings of artist Juan Correa , his style denotes an austere Baroque touch with Moorish details.
