Chai Wong

Thorvaldsensvej 2 Cuisines: Asian

About

Those who feel like Asian food should make the trek over to Frederiksberg (the corner of H.C. Ørstedsvej and Thorvaldsensvej to be more precise), as Copenhagen's new Asian crossover restaurant Chai Wong is worth the trek (and the necessary reservation to avoid disappointment, as the place seats a mere 50 dinner guests). This Singapore-style street kitchen was developed out of the shared ethnic cuisines of Kiin Kiin's kitchen staff; Thai, Vietnamese, Singapore, Malay and Chinese, Chai Wong is named after its owner, Lertchai Treetawat Chaiwong, and is part of the successful Kiin Kiin empire. The decor is much smarter than a real Asian street kitchen, however, and the interior is a smart black and grey color scheme. Signature dishes include 'Goong aob woon sen,' shrimp baked in rice noodles with star anise and lovage (DKK 185).
