About

Arcos de Botín (Botín's Arches) in the center of Santander is a fine example of the architectural style of residential buildings dating from the first half of the 19th century. It was constructed by Antonio Zabaleta in 1838. The building flanks the northern side of bustling Plaza Pombo, officially known as Plaza de José Antonio. The four-story building is rectangular in design and neoclassical in conception, especially in the open arcade on the ground floor, so typical of the region, which leads directly onto the square. Overall, it is modest and restrained with little or no decorative detail. Visits inside are not permitted.
