Largo da Boa Hora 19 Cuisines: Seafood

About

The taste of the Atlantic doesn't get much better than this, at an award-winning restaurant whose menu is dedicated to the culinary heritage of the Azores, mid-Atlantic archipelago of nine islands that lie halfway between the European and North American continents. Typical Azorean gastronomy is served here and a good deal of it is traditional fish and seafood dishes. The fish soup is an incredibly flavoursome starter, as is the lapas, grilled limpets in garlic butter served on a half shell. Most of the islands' unique cuisine is represented, including bacalhau picaroto, a cod dish from Pico Island. Regional octopus is a favourite with everyone it seems. So too are the different tuna dishes that can be ordered fried, grilled or boiled. There are fair helpings of regional meat dishes on offer, and a very tempting dessert menu. For another taste of the Azores, be sure to try their cheese selection – Azorean cheese is world famous, especially that from São Jorge Island. © NileGuide 2011 The Azores are an archipelago, located right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Its strategic and military significance has been demonstrated throughout history, from the end of the Second World War, to the last and most contemporary conflicts. Still, the importance of its nine islands goes way beyond a military one, and its natural beauty and thrilling landscapes are just two of its many other values. The Açores Space presents some of the best cuisine typical of the islands. Octopus, Codfish, Tuna fish and Beef show up as the main ingredients of several appetizing dishes.
