About

Adjacent to Rossio is Figueira Square, one of the city's main bus and tram stops, and with a great view of St. George's Castle overlooking it. The buildings surrounding the square house guesthouses, shops, and cafes, including the popular Pastelaria Suiça. Close to the center is a bronze equestrian statue of King João I, usually smothered by flocks of pigeons and surrounded by teenage skaters. On the south side, the charming old Confeitaria Nacional was considered to be one of Europe's most elegant pastry shops when it opened in 1829, and still serves some mouth-watering cakes.Ride Lisbon's metro, buses, and trams for FREE with the Lisboa Card.
