About

Karol Wojtyła was employed there as a manual worker in 1940-1944 (first in the stone quarries, and later in the factory). This let him avoid being transported to Germany, a fate that awaited everyone without permanent employment. Wojtyła would frequently choose night shifts, to have more time for studying and prayer. The people he worked with would frequently take over his duties, so as to allow him to study or sleep a bit.
