Foyles' flagship Charing Cross Road store stocks more books – over 200,000 titles, plus second-hand and rare books – than any other shop in Europe. A complete refurbishment in 2004 eradicated its once-infamous book-finding problems (over 80 expert booksellers are now here to assist) and it was named UK Bookseller of the Year in 2008. A gallery with regular events and musical performances mean that it's worth a visit here at most times, regardless of shopping. Within Foyles is Ray's Jazz, boasting one of the best selections of jazz folk and blues (CDs and vinyl) in town, plus books and a chilled-out café. There is a much smaller branch of Foyle's on the South Bank.
