The South African Gold Museum is located in the Martin Melck House which was constructed in 1783 and represents one of the best examples of the domestic architecture of the time in Cape Town. he home is highly unique in that it is the last remaining 18th century Cape Town home with a "dakkamer", which is a room at the top of the structure where ships could be sighted coming into the harbor area.
