The local favorite for food and drink is this pub installed in the Best Western Motala Standshotell. The location is adjacent to the Stora Torget (the town's main square). There has been a restaurant of some sort on this site since 1880. The well-prepared food is based, whenever possible, on local ingredients. In fall you might encounter venison, pheasant, and grouse. A year-round delicacy is freshwater char from the nearby lakes. The menu changes frequently but count on fresh salmon or tasty and tender beef dishes. (Most locals request them with a Béarnaise sauce.) If you're homesick for America, you might even try the spare ribs with coleslaw.
