Hörnli Cemetery

Hörnliallee 70

About

The Hörnli cannot be compared with the graveyards of Paris, but there are nonetheless a number of prominent people buried here and exquisite tombs and graves. There is a sober atmosphere in keeping with the modern nature of the cemetery. Lying as it does in the Riehen district, the cemetery is very close to the German border. The landscaping was undertaken in the economically difficult period 1927-1932, and the building provided an income for many workers. You will find the final resting places of the theologian Karl Barth, the historian Jacob Burckhardt and the philosopher Karl Jaspers here.
