Hunua Ranges (The)

50 km from Auckland

About

The Hunua Ranges provide almost all the drinking water for Auckland and represent a great destination for tramping or a relaxing drive. Access to the ranges is from the township of Hunua, about ten kilometres east of Papakura off the Southern Motorway. From Hunua you can drive up Falls Road to the short track to Hunua Falls, a tall waterfall formed at the edge of an eroded volcanic plug. On the eastern slopes of the Hunuas are some regional parks that offer bush walks and beaches. To the south-east are the Miranda Hot Springs, a wonderful way to relax after a busy day.
