Antigua, Guatemala is a beautiful colonial city which was built to be the Spanish capital of Central America. One of the most interesting crafts are the indigenous hand woven cloth and hand made stones and jade jewelry which are found in many shops across the town. About 3 blocks west of the Plaza Mayor is the mercado municipal, or public market, and beside it is a well-organized handicraft and artisans market. Bargaining is still practiced, so study the prices beforehand to give yourself a starting point when purchasing.
