About

The Johor Art Gallery, also known as Dato' Abdullah Jaafar Building, was built before the start of World War I in 1910 and used to be the headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II . The gallery is in an old colonial style building and houses a wide collection of Malay artwork, from paintings and sculptures to ceramics and traditional weapons. The artwork features many aspects of traditional Malay culture, and reflects on Johor states' special place in Malaysia. The building itself is a marvellous example of 1920s colonial style architecture. The main reason the building is becoming the art gallery is due to its unique design and its artistic values that cannot be denied up to present times
