About

Kilmacoliver Hill (261m) dominates the landscape of the Windgap in County Kilkenny. Its summit is adorned by a circular enclosure of standing stones. The structure is aligned with the setting solstice sun and visited by groups at mid winter and mid summer day. It is a curious burial ground, whether pagan or Christian is not known. There is also a trig pillar (triangulation pillars used by the Ordnance Survey). On the same hill some curious figures are cut into a large granite rock and nearby there is a holy well and three superb old Irish crosses. There’s a looped walk from the village of Tullahought up Kilmacoliver Hill that is featured in the Discover Ireland Looped Walks section: www.discoverireland.ie/Activities-Adventure/kilmacoliver-loop/71561
