Kundeswara Temple is the main temple of the Udupi District, constructed by Kundavarma. The town of Kundapur was named after the Kundeswara Temple, which is situated near to the Panchagangavalli River and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The presiding deity is a black stone garbhagriha idol, which is a 4 ft high Shiva Linga. One-third of the Shiva Linga appears on a pedestal and the remaining is buried beneath it. The temple also has shrines to Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha. The main festival of the Kundeshwara Temple is the 'Kundeshwara Deepotsava'.
