About

Follow the Manngarre (Marn-narr-ay) Walk through monsoon rainforest and along the East Alligator River in the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park. The walk comprises three interconnected loops ranging from 600 metres to 1.5 kilometres in length. Follow the path through rainforest to an elevated viewing platform that overlooks the river. For more information about the surroundings, you can join the guided walk that departs from the information shelter at the boat ramp on the East Alligator River on Fridays. The Manngarre Walk is graded easy and takes about one hour for the longest loop. These walks may be closed due to weather conditions - ask if the walk is open at the Bowali Visitor Centre near Jabiru before setting out. The surrounding area has strong indigenous heritage. Aboriginal people set up camp here to because of the diverse foods available from the East Alligator River, the Nadab floodplain, the woodlands, and the surrounding stone country. The Manngarre Walk is located in the East Alligator region within Kakadu National Park, and is about a 3-hour drive from Darwin. An entry fee of AUD25.00 per person over the age of 16 years is required to enter Kakadu.
