In 1998, with the arrival of Hong Kong Master Chef Gordon Tso in Launceston, Northern Tasmania reached new heights in the provision of classic Cantonese cuisine. The Me Wah soon became the restaurant of choice for Asian food aficionados culminating in the Me Wah being voted "Best Asian Restaurant in Tasmania" for the years 1999-2011 .
