About

The National Pass is one of Australia's finest bushwalking trails, just 100 kilometres from Sydney and easily accessible by car or train. The walking trail follows six kilometres of majestic wild scenery and waterfalls in the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. The trail was built with picks, shovels, crowbars and dynamite between 1906 and 1907. It involved cutting a zigzag staircase into a cliff face and became a very popular walking trail. After 95 years service, the National Pass was tired and fraying badly in places and it was closed in 2002 to start a restoration project. After several years of painstaking reconstruction, the trail re-opened and won major heritage conservation awards. There is a wide choice of excellent accommodation within a short distance of either end of the trail.
